The Pokémon Company has announced Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves as the next mainline entries in the long-running RPG series.
Developed by GAME FREAK inc., the titles are scheduled for release in 2027 on the Nintendo Switch 2 system. The games will launch simultaneously and introduce players to a new open-world setting featuring windswept islands and a vast ocean environment.
A reveal trailer showcased tropical landscapes surrounded by water, offering a first look at the region that will form the backdrop for what has been described as Generation 10.
Trainers will take on the role of the main character, with outfit variations depending on which version of the game they choose.
Players will select one of three starter Pokémon at the beginning of their journey. Browt, the Bean Chick Pokémon, is a Grass-type described in an official press release as a “lively but clumsy Bean Chick”. Pombon, a Fire-type, is referred to as a “guileless and friendly Puppy Pokemon.” Gecqua, the Water-type option, is described as an “intelligent Water Gecko” monster.
Screenshots released alongside the announcement provide further glimpses of the setting and the new starter trio. Two special Pikachu variants wearing beach-themed attire were also shown.
Named Mr Windychu and Ms Wavychu, their specific roles in the games have not yet been detailed, though they are expected to be obtainable depending on the version selected.
Further information about gameplay features and additional Pokémon has yet to be confirmed. The Pokémon Company is expected to share more details as the 2027 launch window approaches.
