SHARQPUR SHARIF:

A powerful explosion ripped through a fireworks manufacturing unit in the Mohallah Ghareebabad area of Sharqpur, killing one person and injuring five others, rescue and police officials said on Wednesday.

According to initial reports, the blast occurred inside a house being used for the preparation of fireworks material.

The explosion triggered a fire and blew off the roof of the building.

Five workers were trapped under the debris and sustained injuries, while a man identified as Aamir died on the spot.

The thud of the explosion spread panic across the neighborhood. Rescue teams rushed to the scene and launched an operation, pulling the injured from beneath the rubble.

After administering first aid, rescuers shifted the five injured individuals to a nearby hospital for treatment. The body of the deceased was handed over to police.

Rescue officials continued clearing debris with the help of a crane and confirmed that no additional victims were found.

Police at the scene said a case had been registered against the factory owner three days earlier, but the manufacturing of fireworks reportedly continued.

One of the injured workers, Nasir Ali, appealed to Maryam Nawaz for medical assistance and requested that no legal action be taken against the poor laborers.
