Jon Hamm has addressed the viral meme that turned one of his recent television moments into a TikTok phenomenon, admitting he finds the whole thing both mystifying and adorable.

The actor spoke at the Los Angeles premiere of his new animated film Hoppers, where he was asked about the clip from Your Friends & Neighbors that took social media by storm late last year. The now famous scene shows Hamm’s character, Andrew Coop Cooper, closing his eyes and losing himself on the dance floor as DJ Kato’s track Turn The Lights Off plays in the background.

The short moment quickly escaped the confines of the show and found a second life on TikTok, where users recreated the move by shutting their eyes and swaying with exaggerated intensity. The trend boosted both the series and the song’s popularity, with countless copycat videos appearing across platforms.

Hamm, 54, made it clear he is not bothered by the attention. “It wasn’t like I got paid for it. It’s lovely, obviously. It’s nice,” he said. “It’s certainly nice to be known for something pleasant rather than something negative. I find it mystifying and adorable at the same time, but it’s fun.”

The viral moment originated in season one, episode eight of the Apple TV Plus drama, which follows a disgraced hedge fund manager who begins stealing from wealthy acquaintances after losing his high powered job. While the series carries heavy themes, the club scene offered an unexpectedly light and relatable beat that audiences embraced.

Online, fans praised Hamm’s unfiltered commitment to the moment. Many described the dance as unintentionally hilarious yet strangely earnest, which only added to its charm. Some users even joked that the clip had achieved cult status, cementing its place among TikTok’s most recognisable television edits of 2025.

Beyond the meme, Hamm has a busy slate ahead. Season two of Your Friends and Neighbors is set to premiere in April, while his Disney Pixar film Hoppers arrives in cinemas in early March. Speaking about joining the Pixar canon, he expressed genuine pride. “I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a goal of mine ever since I was starting this career a million years ago, to be part of this,” he said, referencing classics such as Toy Story and WALL-E.
