RAWALPINDI:

Authorities have approved a mega project to develop 17 villages in Rawalpindi Division as "Model Villages."

The project will be launched under the Annual Development Programme with a total estimated cost of Rs2,22 billion.

Under the project, drinking water supply schemes, sewerage systems, drainage, roads, streets and drains in these 17 remote villages will be constructed and paved. Water filtration plants will be installed to ensure the provision of clean drinking water. New sanitary workers will be recruited for proper waste disposal, while new dispensaries and basic health units will also be established.

Nine villages from Rawalpindi district — Narha Bagwan, Dhok Gujran, Misrial, Nothia, Kalyal, Meena Potha, Kot Rajgan, Sindhu Sayedan and Mattor — have been included in the scheme. From Attock district, the villages of Pind Fateh, Mithal, Kot Fateh Khan, Garshin and Jand Bander have been selected, while four villages from Chakwal district — Jhatla, Kot Sarang, Mulhal Mughlan and Malakwal — are also part of the project.

Contracts for the improvement of municipal services in these villages will be issued on February 25. The project is scheduled for completion within six months.

The respective deputy commissioners and members of the national and provincial assemblies will directly supervise the project.
