Michelle Yeoh receives Hollywood Walk of Fame star after four-decade career

Michelle Yeoh has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, marking a significant milestone in a career spanning more than four decades across Asian and international cinema.

Reflecting on the recognition ahead of the event, Yeoh said, “I remember when I first went to the Walk of Fame because it’s very iconic. You want to go there because all your big heroes who’ve been in the business since you were a kid are there. I remember looking, ‘Oh, here’s so and so!’ So now, just to think that I’m getting it, it’s a dream come true.”

Yeoh began her career in 1983 after winning the Miss Malaysia World contest and representing Malaysia at the Miss World pageant in London. She rose to prominence in Hong Kong action cinema with films such as Yes, Madam, Magnificent Warriors, The Heroic Trio, Tai Chi Master and Wing Chun.

Her move to Hollywood brought international recognition through roles in Tomorrow Never Dies and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. She later starred in major productions including Crazy Rich Asians, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Everything, Everywhere All At Once, winning the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2023 and becoming the first Asian performer to do so in that category.

“The star may carry one name, but it represents so many people who made this journey possible,” Yeoh said. “I hope it reminds someone, somewhere, that it is possible. The way you begin does not define where you can go.”
