Firing at jirga leaves two dead

RAWALPINDI:

A man opened fire and killed two people during a jirga on a transaction issue in Gulistan Colony, Civil Lines police station area of Rawalpindi.

According to the police, Hassan Butt, Usman Zaheer and others involved worked as stamp and photostat operators in the district court and were also related to each other. On Wednesday evening, a jirga was held between two parties inside the cable office in Gulzar Market, Gulistan Colony Lane 3, over a transaction issue in which Usman Zaheer, along with Muhammad Siam, a resident of Kalar Road and a lawyer were also present in the jirga.

The jirga ended without reaching any decision and as soon as the parties left, Hassan Butt opened firing. Usman Zaheer and Muhammad Siam were seriously injured in the intense firing and died on the spot due to their injuries, while the accused threw his pistol and managed to escape from the spot after the firing.
