Police took action after a video of a police officer dancing under the influence went viral on social media, and a tragic road accident claimed the life of a tractor-trolley driver.
According to a police report, Sub-Inspector Barkat Ali, in charge of Investigation City Samundari, was filmed dancing at a private gathering while allegedly under the influence of drugs. The video, showing him raising both hands and dancing, quickly circulated online, prompting the City Police Officer (CPO) Sahibzada Bilal Umar to take notice.
Barkat Ali was immediately arrested, and a case was registered against him under Section 155-C of the Police Order 2002 for exceeding his authority. The CPO has suspended him and ordered an inquiry, to be conducted under the supervision of SP Saddar Division.
In a separate incident near Chack 136 GB, Tarkhani, a speeding dumper truck (registration MNI6618) collided with a sugarcane-loaded tractor-trolley being driven by Yousaf Masih, brother of Saleem Masih, en route from Saloni Jhal to Samundari.
The impact caused the trolley to lose control, mount a divider, and overturn, resulting in Yousaf Masih being crushed under the vehicle and dying on the spot.
Police recovered the body, handed it over to the family after necessary procedures, and launched a manhunt for the dumper driver, who fled the scene.
Police have emphasised that strict action will be taken against anyone violating laws or public safety, whether from within the force or outside, and appealed to citizens to report any information regarding the fleeing driver.
