HYDERABAD:

Four terrified children lie in the paediatric ward of Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad, officials confirmed on Tuesday. The psychological trauma of being attacked by a drug addict father is much greater than the wounds he inflicted with an axe after killing their mother and two sisters in front of them, hospital said.

The deputy commissioner of the district inquired about their well-being, hoping that an NGO might take them under their care.

Najamuddin, Nazia, Raheela, and Razia, aged between two and seven years-were initially shifted to Kotri and later to Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad.

On February 1, Raku Khoso, reportedly a victim of substance abuse, demanded money from wife, Mangi Khoso, who worked odd jobs at village homes warning just enough to buy few fistful of flour to make some rotis, her neighbours said. On that Sunday, Mangi was penniless and unable to provide for her husband's drug addiction.

Maddened by urge for the shot of heroin, he took out his pistol and shot his wife, then his two daughters Sodhi and Humera, and went on to grab the axe and hit his four younger children, the neighbours told the police. After the bloodbath, he picked up the gun and shot himself.
