Keke Palmer has said she does not want to live with a romantic partner, even if she were to get married, explaining that maintaining personal space is important to her.
The 32-year-old actress and singer shared her views while appearing on Today with Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones on February 2, as she promoted her upcoming Peacock series The ’Burbs. The conversation turned to modern dating trends, including discussing major life topics early on.
“I think that's actually good. Just get it out of the way, because sometimes you end up talking to somebody and y'all never talk about anything real, any of the things that actually show compatibility life-wise,” Palmer said.
During a light-hearted role-play, Bush Hager asked Palmer whether she wanted children. Palmer, who is already a mother to two-year-old son Leodis, whom she shares with ex-partner Darius Jackson, responded by outlining a clear boundary.
“I could be open, but one thing I need you to know is I never want to live together. I like my alone time,” she said. When asked whether the comment reflected her genuine feelings, Palmer confirmed, “That's real. I'm speaking as The Keke.”
She added that her perspective would remain the same even within marriage. “I just feel like Whoopi Goldberg said it best once. She was like, ‘I don't want nobody in my house.’ And I feel that. I'm serious — married, even.”
Palmer went on to describe what her ideal arrangement might look like, suggesting proximity without cohabitation. “Around the corner would be great,” she said, before adding, “You can be in the guest house, we can be on the same land, but I'm over there and he's over there. At best, separate rooms.”
She also said she would not want to share a bathroom with a partner, arguing that separate spaces could help keep a relationship enjoyable. “But think about how fun it would be to be like, ‘I'm going over to my man's house.’ Over there, hi husband! It keeps it fun and exciting,” she said.
Palmer’s new series The ’Burbs premieres on 8 February, and she is set to appear in the film I Love Boosters later this year.
