KARACHI:

Investigations are under way from multiple angles into allegations that DIG Pir Muhammad Shah misused his personal influence to allegedly have a trader abducted. The inquiry is also examining the circumstances that led to his removal from the post of DIG Traffic.

Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon had sought an explanation from DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah regarding a case registered against a trader at A-Section Police Station, Latifabad, Hyderabad (FIR No 2026/506).

On January 16, the IG Sindh issued a show-cause notice, stating that Pir Muhammad Shah had allegedly misused his authority. The DIG was given three days to respond, with a warning of departmental action in case of non-compliance. However, after failing to submit a reply even after nearly 14 days, Shah was removed from his post on January 30.

The Hyderabad FIR reportedly sought the recovery of more than Rs31 crore from the trader.

Hyd police confirmed that three police personnel, including ASI Mirza Rashid posted at A-Section Police Station, Latifabad, have been suspended in connection with the incident.
