Court seals illegal building on storm drain
Following strict notice by a senior civil judge Rawalpindi over illegal commercial plazas being constructed on major stormwater drains across the city, the chief officer of the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) initiated action and sealed a four-storey plaza under construction on a major drain at Railway Workshop Road, Dhoke Ratta.
Notices were issued to the plaza owners, Ikram and Farooq, seeking documents, registry papers and approved maps related to the construction.
In other areas of the city, including along Nullah Leh, owners of under-construction buildings erected barriers in front of their properties.
Former superintendent of RMC, Haji Banaras Khan Jadoon, a resident of the same area, said that while the plaza appeared sealed from outside, construction work was continuing rapidly inside.
He urged the chief officer to personally visit the site and ensure a complete halt to the work.
The senior civil judge Rawalpindi, while taking strict notice of the construction of commercial plazas on stormwater drains, summoned the deputy commissioner, chief officer municipal corporation, builders and contractors involved.
