Just 22 cops handle capital's night traffic

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad Traffic Police submitted a report to the Islamabad High Court in response to a petition seeking the implementation of the Motor Vehicle Ordinance in the federal capital, stating that the 22 officers on night duty from 10pm to 7am only perform patrolling duties and have no claim over the area between Sector F-8 and Ninth Avenue.

Justice Inam Amin Minhas presided over the hearing, in which the petitioner's lawyer Qaiser Abbas Gondal was present alongside Federal Police Legal DSP Sajid Cheema, who presented the traffic police report in the court.

The report stated that only four sub-inspectors, six assistant sub-inspectors, ten constables and a mechanic are on duty in Islamabad at night. The 22 personnel on night duty perform patrolling duties from 10pm to 7am. The report further stated that the police has never claimed ownership or possession of the area between F-8 and Ninth Avenue. "The area is a green belt and is reserved for public purposes. Neither any trees nor plants have been cut from the area.
