Elon Musk has publicly criticized acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan, claiming the director has “lost his integrity” in response to casting decisions for Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey. The comments from Musk sparked controversy and intense discussion among fans and film followers.

Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek classic is currently in post-production and features a high-profile ensemble including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Charlize Theron. Among the cast, Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o is reportedly playing Helen of Troy—a choice that became a focal point of debate online.

The controversy began when a user on Musk’s social platform X argued that casting a Black actress as Helen of Troy, traditionally described in ancient texts as fair-skinned and blonde, conflicted with the conventional portrayal of the mythical figure. Musk amplified the post with his comment: “Chris Nolan has lost his integrity.”

Reactions were immediate and divided. Many defended Nolan’s creative choices, noting that The Odyssey is a mythological story with no historical basis, allowing for diverse casting. Others countered Musk’s criticism, emphasizing that mythological characters are not constrained to any specific race or appearance.

The debate arrives as anticipation grows for The Odyssey, set for release this summer. New footage has also revealed rapper Travis Scott making his acting debut in the film, adding to the buzz surrounding Nolan’s highly anticipated epic.
