Jarrell Miller loses hairpiece mid-fight against Kingsley Ibeh, goes on to claim split-decision win at MSG

Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller was involved in an unusual moment during his heavyweight bout at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night, when his hairpiece was dislodged in the middle of his fight against Kingsley Ibeh.

The contest took place on the undercard of the Teófimo López–Shakur Stevenson event in New York.

The incident occurred late in the second round as Ibeh pinned Miller against the ropes and landed a series of punches. One blow snapped Miller’s head back, lifting the hairpiece at the front and briefly exposing a bald patch before it folded backwards. The moment prompted audible reactions from the crowd, but the action was not stopped.

Miller completed the round with the hairpiece still partly attached. During the break, he removed it in his corner and threw it into the audience before returning for the third round. He appeared relaxed about the mishap and continued the fight without further disruption.

The bout proceeded to the scorecards, with Miller securing a split-decision victory. Two judges scored the contest 97-93 in his favour, while a third awarded it to Ibeh by 94-96. As the decision was read, Miller rubbed the top of his head while celebrating in the ring.

After the fight, Miller joked about the incident, claiming he had lost much of his hair days earlier after using a bottle of shampoo he said he found at his mother’s house.

At 37, Miller remains a familiar and sometimes controversial figure in the heavyweight division. He was scheduled to fight Anthony Joshua at the same venue in 2019 before being removed from the bout after failing multiple pre-fight drug tests, leading to Andy Ruiz Jr stepping in and scoring a notable upset.

Following suspensions related to anti-doping violations, Miller has attempted to rebuild his career. On Saturday night, he did so in memorable fashion, securing a victory despite an unexpected and highly visible distraction.
