Newly released documents from the Jeffrey Epstein files show Elon Musk corresponded with the convicted sex offender in 2012 and 2013, discussing plans to visit Epstein’s private island and potentially host him at SpaceX, according to records made public Friday.

The emails, released by the US Department of Justice, include exchanges in which Epstein offered to send a private helicopter to transport Musk to the island.

In one November 2013 email, Musk reportedly said he would be traveling with his then-partner, actress Talulah Riley, and asked, “What day/night will be the wildest party on your island?”

In December 2013, Musk wrote that he would be in the British Virgin Islands and St. Barts over the holidays and asked whether there was a good time to visit. Epstein responded that he would send a helicopter, to which Musk replied, “Thanks.”

The documents also show Epstein sought the services of SolarCity, the solar installer backed by Musk and later acquired by Tesla. Musk forwarded Epstein’s inquiry to SolarCity co-founder Peter Rive, asking whether the company operated in New Mexico.

Musk has long downplayed his connection to Epstein and has denied ever visiting the island. In a September post on X, Musk said Epstein tried to get him to go to the island and that he refused. CNBC has not confirmed whether Musk ever traveled there, and Musk did not respond to a request for comment.

The document release follows criticism that the Justice Department failed to meet a legal deadline to publicly release Epstein-related files. Epstein died by suicide in 2019 while in federal custody.
