RAWALPINDI:

Two dangerous robbers were arrested in an injured condition following an alleged police encounter in the jurisdiction of Taxila Police Station on Friday, while two of their accomplices managed to escape.

Police officials said that a patrol team on Murad Road attempted to stop four suspicious individuals riding two motorcycles. The suspects opened fire on the police, prompting a retaliatory exchange.

After the firing ceased, police found two injured suspects — identified as Zubair and Faheem, also known as Imran — at the scene. Pistols were recovered from their possession, while two accomplices, identified as Hazrat Gul and another unidentified individual, fled the scene.

The injured suspects were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Potohar SP Sardar Babar Mumtaz said the arrested men were wanted in multiple cases involving robberies, vehicle theft, and illegal possession of weapons in the twin cities. The motorcycle recovered from them was also reported to be stolen.

Cases have been registered, and raids are underway to arrest the absconding suspects. Rawalpindi city police chief Khalid Hamdani commended Taxila Police for their bravery and reaffirmed that those who endanger public safety or attack police personnel will not be spared.
