UC delimitation to begin next month

Under the newly enacted Local Government System Act 2025, Punjab — including Rawalpindi Division — has been divided into a total of 792 local government units. Delimitation of union councils across all ten divisions, including Rawalpindi, will begin in February, for which training of the District Election Commission staff has already started.

According to officials, Punjab will have a total of 792 local government units comprising 33 municipal corporations, 264 municipal committees, 28 town corporations, 325 urban union councils, and 142 tehsil councils. All 36 district councils across the province have been abolished.

In Rawalpindi Division, there will be two town corporations, three municipal corporations, 22 municipal committees, and 23 tehsil councils.

Lahore Division will have nine town corporations, four municipal corporations, 35 municipal committees, and 12 tehsil councils.

Faisalabad Division will comprise five town corporations, five municipal corporations, 25 municipal committees, and 16 tehsil councils. In the newly created Gujrat Division, there will be three municipal corporations, 15 municipal committees, and 12 tehsil councils.
