CM announces relief and reconstruction plan for Gul Plaza victims

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday inaugurated the Rs6.1 billion Korangi Causeway bridge, reaffirming his government's commitment to improving Karachi's infrastructure, while also announcing comprehensive relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction measures for those affected by the Gul Plaza tragedy.

Speaking at the inauguration, the chief minister offered prayers for those who lost their lives in the Gul Plaza incident and said no compensation could ever replace human loss. He said the tragedy had shaken the entire province and assured affected families and traders of continued government support.

Highlighting the significance of the Korangi Causeway project, Murad Ali Shah said the area used to get cut off during rains, causing severe hardship for residents and industries. "We committed to building this bridge nearly three years ago to resolve this long-standing problem," he said. The 1.4-kilometre-long, six-lane bridge, constructed at a cost of over Rs6.13 billion, will benefit Korangi and Landhi industrial areas, daily commuters and key facilities such as Indus Hospital, SIUT, educational institutions and nearby residential areas. He said nearly five million people are expected to use the bridge daily.

The chief minister said the project is part of a broader plan to rehabilitate Karachi's deteriorating infrastructure. He added that work was underway to connect Korangi Road with Shahrah-e-Bhutto, which is expected to open by Eid or shortly thereafter.
