Obesity, diabetes surge termed alarming

The Second International Obesity Conference highlighted the alarming rise of obesity and diabetes in Pakistan, warning that the situation has reached critical levels. Experts stressed that nearly half of the country's adult population is overweight or obese, with millions simultaneously suffering from diabetes. They cautioned that many patients remain undiagnosed, increasing risks of severe heart, kidney, and liver diseases, disability, and premature death.

The conference was held at Peoples University of Medical & Health Sciences for Women (PUMHSW). It was attended by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Gulshan Memon, renowned medical experts, professors, and senior doctors from across the country. Host of the event, Dr. Sadiq Memon, Director Clinical of Asian Medical Institute of Health Sciences (AIMS) Hyderabad, emphasized that obesity and diabetes are rapidly becoming serious public health issues in Pakistan, mirroring global trends.
