Olivia Rodrigo has publicly expressed support for protesters in Minnesota following a fatal incident involving federal immigration agents, adding her voice to a widening public response to the events.

The singer shared a series of Instagram Stories condemning the actions of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and aligning herself with demonstrators opposing the agency’s presence and tactics in the state.

In her posts, Rodrigo described ICE’s conduct as “unconscionable” and urged followers to take political action by contacting their senators and opposing further federal funding for the agency. She concluded one message with a clear statement of solidarity, writing, “I stand with Minnesota.”

Rodrigo’s comments followed reports of a deadly encounter between immigration agents and a local resident in Minneapolis. According to NBC News, federal officers shot and killed a 37-year-old man during an enforcement operation on January 24. The man was later identified by his family as Alex Jeffrey Pretti, an intensive care nurse.

The Department of Homeland Security said agents involved in the incident reported being approached by an armed individual who resisted efforts to disarm him, leading to the shooting. Officials stated that the officers acted in response to a perceived threat during the operation.

Local authorities have urged caution as investigations continue. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said during a news conference that investigators believe Pretti was a lawful gun owner with a valid permit to carry. He added that several details surrounding the confrontation remain unclear, with multiple agencies now reviewing the circumstances of the shooting.

The incident prompted immediate protests across Minneapolis, with demonstrators criticising federal immigration enforcement practices and calling for accountability and transparency. Protesters have demanded a clearer explanation of the use of force and questioned the presence of immigration agents in residential areas.

Rodrigo joins other public figures who have commented on the situation as scrutiny of immigration enforcement intensifies. Her statements have circulated widely online, drawing both support and criticism as the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
