DC Studios has enlisted screenwriter Christina Hodson to write The Brave and the Bold, its upcoming Batman film centered on the Dark Knight and his son, Damian Wayne.

The project remains in development, with Andy Muschietti still attached as director, though the studio is proceeding cautiously as it shapes the next phase of its Batman slate.

Hodson, known for her work on major franchise films, brings extensive DC experience to the project. She previously collaborated with Muschietti on The Flash and wrote Birds of Prey, as well as the critically praised Bumblebee. Sources indicate Hodson has been working on The Brave and the Bold since at least fall 2025, though it remains unclear how far along the screenplay is, and DC Studios declined to comment.

Announced in 2023 as part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC Universe, The Brave and the Bold introduces a new take on Batman and Robin, with Damian Wayne portrayed as a lethal young assassin raised by the League of Assassins before discovering his connection to Bruce Wayne. The film aims to distinguish itself tonally and visually from other Batman projects currently in development.

Muschietti remains involved, but his long-term role depends on scheduling and availability. The filmmaker’s profile has risen following the success of HBO’s It prequel series Welcome to Derry, which is expected to continue beyond its first season.

DC Studios is also mindful of Matt Reeves’ The Batman sequel starring Robert Pattinson, which is currently in preproduction. Studio leadership is said to be giving Reeves’ vision space, ensuring that The Brave and the Bold feels clearly separate within the broader DC Universe. No release date has been announced.
