The Pakistan Meteorological Department’s Early Warning Centre has forecast rain and thunderstorms across Karachi and several districts of Sindh from January 22 due to an approaching western weather system.

According to the forecast, the system is expected to enter the province on January 22, bringing the possibility of moderate to light rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, to Karachi.

Rain is also expected in Jamshoro, Dadu, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Naushahro Feroze and Shaheed Benazirabad, among other areas, the department said.

The weather office advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms, particularly in low-lying and vulnerable areas, and said further updates would be issued as the system develops.

On December 30, 2025, Karachi received its first winter drizzle, reported in several areas, bringing relief from the prevailing dry weather and making conditions more pleasant.

Residents welcomed the rainfall, saying it improved the overall weather conditions after a long dry spell.
