Explosion reported at Rockstar North studio as police cordon off GTA 6 development building
Emergency services responded to early morning incident at Rockstar North Edinburgh office, with police securing area

Emergency services were deployed to Rockstar North’s Edinburgh headquarters early Monday following reports of an explosion at the site, prompting a police cordon around the building.
According to Dexerto, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews were alerted to the incident at approximately 5:02 a.m. on January 19. Fire officials confirmed that three fire engines and four specialist appliances were dispatched to the Holyrood area, where Rockstar North’s offices are located, and that the situation remained ongoing for several hours.
While authorities have not officially confirmed the cause, reports from the scene suggested the incident may have originated from a boiler room within the building. Emergency responders were still present more than two hours after the initial call, as police secured the surrounding area to allow investigations and safety checks to continue.
At the time of reporting, there were no confirmed injuries connected to the incident. Police Scotland had not yet issued a formal statement, though local outlet Edinburgh Live has requested comment from the force.
Rockstar North is best known as the primary development studio behind the Grand Theft Auto franchise, including the highly anticipated GTA 6. Further updates are expected as authorities release more information.
