Production has officially begun on Red, White & Royal Wedding, the sequel to the 2023 romantic drama Red, White & Royal Blue. The update was confirmed by Amazon MGM Studios, which shared a behind-the-scenes announcement featuring returning stars Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez.

The announcement video playfully addressed fan speculation surrounding the film’s title. As filming commenced, Zakhar Perez referenced an upcoming wedding in the story, prompting Galitzine to clarify that their characters are not the ones getting married, putting an end to rumors that the sequel would center on Alex and Henry’s wedding. Despite the clarification, the studio hinted that the film may still hold unexpected developments.

The sequel will be directed by five-time Emmy nominee Jamie Babbit and is based on a script written by Gemma Burgess, Matthew López, and Red, White & Royal Blue author Casey McQuiston. The original film followed the romance between Prince Henry, third in line to the British throne, and Alex Claremont-Diaz, the son of the U.S. president, and concluded with the couple choosing to remain together despite political and royal pressures. The film received largely positive responses following its release on streaming platforms.

Babbit’s previous directing work includes films such as But I’m a Cheerleader, The Quiet, and Itty Bitty Titty Committee, as well as television episodes for series including Russian Doll, Gilmore Girls, Silicon Valley, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Orville, and Only Murders in the Building.

Producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter are returning under Berlanti Schechter Films, joined by Michael McGrath and Matthew López. Jennifer Salke is producing through Sullivan Street Productions, with Casey McQuiston and Michael Constable serving as executive producers.

A release date for Red, White & Royal Wedding has not yet been announced
