MUZAFFARABAD:

Senior bureaucrat Muhammad Rashid Hanif has been appointed as secretary information department of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government, according to a notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) on Sunday.

Hanif began his career in 1999.

A law graduate of Punjab University Lahore, he has served in various key positions including deputy secretary and additional secretary in the S&GAD and finance departments.

He has also held the posts of special secretary to the prime minister of AJK and special secretary health.

In addition, Hanif has also served as director general DG tourism, secretary sports, youth and culture and secretary information technology IT.

He is known for advocating institutional reforms with a focus on improving public service delivery.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Hanif said the present era is dominated by digital media and alongside traditional print and electronic platforms greater emphasis should be placed on digital media.

He stressed the need to promote quality content that fosters national integration and highlights human rights violations committed by Indian occupation forces in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

He added that the information department would be placed on a fast track of development to reach wider audiences by effectively utilising all its available resources.
