Nothing is safe anymore (II)
LONDON:
With reference to Syed Talat Hussain’s piece ‘Nothing is safe anymore’, Pakistan’s detractors are getting ammunition because the nation is in a state of denial. Our government and military seem to have infinite tolerance for the deeds of the extremists. Politicians are using the recent wave of attacks in Lahore to score points, and the establishment seems more than happy to defend the Haqqanis instead of the citizens of the country. It’s an undeniable fact — ordinary citizens of this country are treated with utter contempt and disdain by the powers that be. Till respect for the life and property of citizens’ becomes a priority for the ruling elite, things will not change.
