LG polls delay: ECP summons Punjab officials

ISLAMABAD:

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken strict notice of the PML-N's Punjab government's failure to complete the process necessary to hold local government (LG) elections in the country's most populous province despite assurances.

According to sources, the polls oversight authority has summoned the chief secretary and the LG secretary to appear in person on January 22

The provincial government has still not provided the ECP with delimitation rules and notifications of union councils (UCs). The ECP stated that further action will be taken to ensure the conduct of elections.
