Chase Hudson and Sara Waisglass are bringing two very different paths to the screen in Tubi’s new teen romantic comedy How to Lose a Popularity Contest, which premiered on January 16.

The film follows two high school opposites who team up to influence a student council election, only to discover unexpected personal growth along the way.

Hudson, widely known as Huddy, built his career through social media and music before stepping into acting. He said approaching his first major film role required serious preparation, noting that he was given time to fully understand his character. Hudson explained that he felt a strong sense of responsibility to deliver, not just for himself but for the fans who have followed his career online.

Drawing from his own teenage experiences, Hudson said themes of popularity and isolation felt personal. He recalled struggling to fit in during high school, eventually finding refuge in music and online creativity. That journey later helped him build a massive TikTok following and launch a successful music career before transitioning into acting.

Waisglass, on the other hand, began acting as a child, appearing in commercials and television before gaining recognition through Degrassi and Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia. She described herself as naturally drawn to creative collaboration and comedy, saying acting always felt like a natural fit.

The two actors said their on-screen chemistry developed quickly, leading to playful moments on set and frequent conversations about a possible sequel. Both expressed interest in revisiting the story, citing their strong working relationship and positive experience with the cast and crew.

How to Lose a Popularity Contest is currently streaming on Tubi.
