Kite flying ban tightened in Pindi

RAWALPINDI:

To ensure strict implementation of the kite flying ban, a 37-point guideline has been issued to the Rawalpindi Police.

The guideline enforces the immediate registration of cases against violators and mandates owners of high-rise buildings, kite sellers and record holders within the police station areas to submit surety bonds that they will not facilitate kite flying or be involved in any related activities.

It also instructs the police to install steel wires on all flyovers and CCTV cameras on the roofs of high-rise buildings, ensuring strict monitoring of the city's entrances including courier companies and post offices. According to details, on the instructions of Rawalpindi Acting RPO Khalid Hamdani, Rawalpindi SSP Operations Malik Tariq Mehboob has sent a letter titled "Instructions on Anti-Kite Flying" to the three divisional SPs, circle DSPs and SHOs.

The letter states that the Punjab government has imposed a complete ban on kite flying. It warns that despite the ban, every year an attempt is made to celebrate Basant festival, and the sale of kite flying equipment increases. To avoid open kite flying and aerial firing this year, the police has been given a set of guidelines. All circle DSPs and SHOs have been instructed to launch awareness campaigns in collaboration with the dignitaries of their respective police stations, traders' associations, religious and political leaders.

It further says that banners warning against kite flying should be displayed on important highways, shopping malls and crowded places, announcements should be made through the official police channels and mosques' loudspeakers.
