Clash over route dispute leaves one dead

Two women are said to be among the eight injured as police arrest six suspects

RAWALPINDI:

One person was killed and eight others, including two women, were injured in a firing incident over a route dispute in the jurisdiction of Rawat police station, Rawalpindi. The incident took place at the entrance of village Kharkan, near Sudh Symbol on Chak Beli Road.

Rescue 1122 provided first aid to the injured and shifted them to the hospital, where the condition of two injured persons was reported to be critical. Police have arrested six suspects in connection with the incident.

According to police, Muhammad Saeed reported that a dispute occurred between him and Ali Mazhar and others, during which the accused opened indiscriminate firing. As a result, 40-year-old Saqlain Khan, 44-year-old Faisal Khan, 38-year-old Azhar Mansabdad, 47-year-old Akhtar, 29-year-old Amjad Kareem, 37-year-old Ms Rabia Shaheen, and 28-year-old Ms Asia sustained injuries.

Upon receiving information, Rescue 1122 and police officials reached the scene. Saqlain Khan, aged 40, succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to hospital after providing initial medical assistance.

City Police Officer Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Hamdani took notice of the incident. SHO Rawat Inspector Zahid Zahoor reached the spot immediately along with a police team and forensic experts and collected evidence. Police officials stated that the dispute occurred over a route issue; however, investigations are being conducted from all angles.

According to a police spokesperson, six suspects have been taken into custody and legal proceedings have been initiated.
