Wedding burials
.

A harrowing incident recently brought Islamabad to a standstill when an alleged gas cylinder explosion killed a newly married couple who were still in the midst of their wedding festivities, along with six other people - including family members and wedding guests. Twelve more people were brought to a hospital for injuries ranging from mild to severe. The explosion significantly destroyed the house where the wedding party members were sleeping, blowing away chunks of entire walls and leaving behind heavy rubble that multiple people were tragically trapped under. Not only this, but four surrounding houses were also damaged.
The entire ordeal vehemently reminds us of the cost of negligence at any and all levels, especially with regards to highly sensitive equipment such as a gas cylinder. Overnight, the dreams of a family awaiting a new member turned into nightmares as they bid goodbye to many more instead. A man lost his son, his wife, his daughter-in-law and his sister-in-law on the same day.
The Islamabad Chief Commissioner informed the media of plans to compensate the victims' families, clarifying that compensation will undoubtedly be provided but the process might take up to five days. In such times, financial support from administrations is of immense help to those who are grieving, and it is hoped that the process is swift and convenient.
Gas consumption increases exponentially in winters; therefore, it is even more important to be vigilant regarding safety precautions during these months. Any odour of gas must be treated seriously; the supply should be turned off right after and ventilation should be prioritised. Citizens must dutifully avoid old or repaired cylinders, and store new ones in well-ventilated areas away from heat. While tragedy can strike any moment, it is always best to heed with caution and implore others to do the same.
