Sindh alters school timings amid chilly weather

Public and private schools to open at 9 am; closing times remain unchanged

KARACHI:

In the wake of severe cold weather, the Sindh government has revised school timings across the province.

Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah issued the directive to adjust school hours in order to help students cope with the cold, following which the Education Department released an official notification.

According to the notification, both public and private schools will now open at 9 am, while their closing times will remain unchanged.

The decision is set to remain in effect from Monday until January 26.

Earlier,the Punjab government also decided to extend winter vacations in educational institutions by one week to safeguard students’ health amid ongoing severe cold weather.

Punjab’s Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced the extension after conducting a public poll on social media. Following public consultation, it was decided that schools and colleges across the province will now reopen on January 19 instead of January 12.

The education minister stated that the decision was taken keeping in mind the harsh weather conditions and the well-being of students.
