Toho has officially announced that Godzilla Minus Zero, the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Godzilla Minus One, will be released in theaters in November 2026.
The new installment in the legendary monster franchise is set to debut in Japan on November 3, 2026, with a North American release following shortly after on November 6.
The film reunites filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki with the franchise, as he returns to write, direct, and oversee visual effects. Yamazaki previously earned widespread praise for Godzilla Minus One, which became a global success, grossing more than $100 million worldwide and winning the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
The Japanese release date holds special significance, as November 3 is celebrated as Godzilla Day, marking the anniversary of the original 1954 Godzilla film. The timing mirrors the release strategy used for Godzilla Minus One, reinforcing the franchise’s historical legacy while appealing to modern audiences.
North American distribution will once again be handled by GKIDS, continuing its partnership with Toho. The company previously released Godzilla Minus One in the US and Canada and has expanded its role in bringing Japanese films to international audiences following its acquisition by Toho.
While specific plot details for Godzilla Minus Zero remain under wraps, the film is currently in production, with visual effects work being handled by Shirogumi Inc. Toho Studios and ROBOT are also involved in the project, signaling a large-scale production similar in ambition to its predecessor.
