Earthquake tremors rock twin cities, AJK, northern areas

Strong earthquake tremors were felt in Islamabad and surrounding areas, triggering panic among residents. According to the seismic centre, the earthquake measured 6.1 on the Richter scale and struck at a depth of 159 kilometres.

The tremors were clearly felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Swat, Malakand, Muzaffarabad, Gilgit, Skardu and Abbottabad, as well as other parts of the country. Tremors were also reported in Azad Kashmir and Indian-administered Kashmir.

Meanwhile, some agencies put the magnitude at 5.8, with the epicentre located in the border region between Tajikistan and China. In Xinjiang, the border area of Tajikistan and China, the earthquake was reported at a magnitude of 6.1.

An earthquake originating 87 kilometres northwest of Karachi was recorded on December 16. The tremor registered a magnitude of 5.2 at a depth of 12 kilometres, with its epicentre located at 25.52°N, 66.55°E. Residents across the city had reported feeling the tremors in multiple areas.
