Nikki Glaser returns as host of the 2026 Golden Globes, teasing jokes and challenges ahead
Glaser made history during last year’s awards as the first woman to host the Globes solo

Comedian Nikki Glaser is set to return as host of the 83rd Golden Globe Awards on January 11, 2026, taking the stage for the second year in a row after earning praise for her sharp, witty performance in 2025. Glaser is already hard at work crafting material and preparing for the upcoming ceremony, which will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+.
Glaser made history during last year’s awards as the first woman to host the Globes solo, a role she has described as one of the most enjoyable of her career. Reflecting on her return, she said she’s focused on creating fresh, unexpected comedy rather than recycling old jokes.
“There’s lots to joke about this year and the star power in the room is going to be bigger than ever,” she said, noting that her goal is to balance humor with genuine admiration for the nominees rather than mean‑spirited remarks.
As part of her preparation, Glaser has been testing out material at comedy clubs around Los Angeles and adjusting based on audience reactions. When it comes to roasting certain stars, she’s already learned some lessons.
Glaser explained that jokes about beloved actress Julia Roberts didn’t go over well with test audiences, calling her “America’s sweetheart” and saying any joke about her had to be “very delicate.” “You cannot make fun of America’s Sweetheart,” Glaser said, noting that audiences were quick to punish even light‑hearted quips.
Glaser also shared that she’s mindful of how to approach other big names in the room. She joked about being a longtime fan of Leonardo DiCaprio, saying his presence adds another layer of pressure.
In crafting her monologue, Glaser has been strategic about striking a balance between entertaining viewers at home and keeping the mood enjoyable for stars attending in person. In interviews, she’s described this balancing act as one of the most difficult parts of the job and emphasized that she wants to poke fun without alienating anyone.
Her return comes as the Golden Globes continue to be a major moment at the start of awards season, with high‑profile films and television shows contending for top honours.
