Rabbani murder: Afghan intelligence pins assassination on Quetta Shura

Afghanistan’s intelligence agency accused the Taliban’s leadership in Pakistan of orchestrating the assassination of former president Burhanuddin Rabbani, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.
The Afghan intelligence agency said that its investigation indicates the attack was organised by Taliban officials at the highest levels.
“The Quetta Shura is involved in this case,” said Shafiqullah Tahiri, spokesperson for Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security. The Quetta Shura is the Taliban’s highest leadership council, led by Mullah Mohammad Omar .
The Taliban on Thursday said media reports calling them responsible for the killing were “baseless and false.”
