2.4m SIMs issued to BISP beneficiaries for wallet-based payments
BISP DG Punjab said future payments to be disbursed through wallet accounts linked to SIM cards provided free of cost

As many as 2.4 million free SIM cards have so far been distributed to beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) across Punjab to facilitate the disbursement of financial assistance through digital wallet accounts, ensuring secure, convenient and timely access to payments, Associated Press of Pakistan reported on Sunday.
It was stated by BISP Director General Punjab Haider Murtaza while speaking to media representatives during his visit to the SIM Distribution Centres in Muzaffargarh, where he reviewed the ongoing distribution process for registered beneficiaries.
During the visit, the director general inspected operational arrangements, beneficiary facilitation measures and overall service delivery at the centres. He explained that wallet accounts are being opened on these SIMs and that, in the future, all BISP payments will be disbursed exclusively through these digital wallets, enhancing transparency and promoting financial inclusion.
He added that the initiative would play a vital role in empowering women and strengthening their economic independence.

The director general categorically informed women beneficiaries that the SIM cards are absolutely free of cost and that no money should be paid to anyone under any circumstances. He stressed that social protection wallets are being entrusted to women as a responsibility which must be safeguarded with the utmost care.
He advised beneficiaries not to share their wallet information, PIN codes or SIM details with anyone and to ensure the safety of their SIM cards at all times. In case of any complaint or issue, beneficiaries were directed to immediately contact their nearest BISP Tehsil Office or call the BISP helpline at 0800-26477.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress achieved so far, the DG instructed the concerned staff to further expedite the distribution process while maintaining service quality. He also directed field staff and service providers to ensure smooth operations, effective crowd management and strict adherence to standard operating procedures, reiterating a zero-tolerance policy for negligence or misconduct.
The director general appreciated the efforts of the field teams and urged them to continue working with dedication and professionalism.
