Fans of Stranger Things have been left wondering what became of Vickie (played by Amybeth McNulty) after the series finale, and creators Matt and Ross Duffer have shared insight into the character’s fate and her relationship with Robin (Maya Hawke).
In the final episode, titled “The Rightside Up”, the story jumps 18 months into the future to show the characters’ lives after the climactic battle against Vecna. While many of the Hawkins crew appear in the epilogue, including romantic couples like Max and Lucas, and Joyce and Hopper, Vickie is noticeably absent, prompting speculation among viewers.
Vickie and Robin’s romantic relationship began in Season 5 and was a highlight for many fans, building on Robin’s emotional journey from previous seasons. However, in the graduation scenes that wrap up the series, the two are not shown together, nor is Vickie mentioned directly.
When asked about Vickie’s absence and the couple’s future, the Duffer brothers acknowledged that they “did talk” about Vickie’s story but intentionally chose not to spell out a definitive ending for her and Robin. Ross Duffer explained that while the flash‑forward addresses certain character arcs, it doesn’t follow every relationship to its conclusion.
Matt Duffer offered his perspective on the likelihood of high school romances enduring beyond Hawkins, suggesting that many such relationships don’t survive once the characters go their separate ways after graduation. “From my point of view and from everyone I knew in high school, what percentage of couples remain together after they leave for college? Extremely low,” he said. Yet he added with a note of optimism: “But, you never know.”
The final episode included a moment that fueled fan speculation about Robin’s relationship status. During a toast among friends at the graduation gathering, Robin responded to the idea of staying close with one line about “overbearing significant others,” which some interpreted as a subtle hint that her romance with Vickie may not have continued.
While the exact status of Robin and Vickie’s relationship remains ambiguous, the Duffer brothers’ comments make clear that its open-ended nature was a deliberate creative choice — one that invites viewers to imagine what might happen next for the beloved characters of Hawkins.
