ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Thursday arranged a ceremony to bid farewell to five Pakistani scholars selected for HEC-Cambridge Commonwealth Trust (CCT) scholarships.

The successful scholars who have been awarded the prestigious scholarship include Mayida Azhar, Shan Aman Rana, Zaib Ali, Ishrat Rehman and Arooj Shafiq. They will join the University of Cambridge in the session starting in October. UK High Commissioner to Pakistan Adam Thomson said: “I must say [the HEC] is an institution which is making a real difference.”

Congratulating the students, Acting Executive Director HEC Dr Riaz Hussain Qureshi said that although the number of scholarships is limited, the expected impact is large.

According to the MoU, HEC will pay 5,000 pounds towards the tuition fee with an additional standard stipend of 9,000 pounds per annum. CCT will pay the remainder of the tuition fee, the college fee and the remainder of the annual stipend.
