Stranger Things: Tales From ’85: Everything known about spin-off following series finale

With the flagship series' end, fans anticipate Netflix's 2 planned spin-off shows within the same fictional universe

Stranger Things has officially come to an end on Netflix after the series released its long-anticipated finale on New Year’s Eve, bringing the story in Hawkins, Indiana, to a close.

The final episode concluded the central conflict with Vecna and offered viewers a brief update on the fate of the show’s characters 18 months after the main events.

Although the flagship series has ended, attention has already shifted to two planned spin-off shows set within the same fictional universe. Netflix has confirmed that the first of these projects will debut this year, though an exact release date has not yet been announced. The series is an animated production titled Stranger Things: Tales from ’85.

The animated spin-off will be set between the events of Season 2 and Season 3 of the original show. It will feature familiar characters including Eleven, Max, Mike, Lucas, Dustin, Will and Hopper. However, the original cast will not reprise their roles, with new actors providing voice performances. Among the confirmed voice cast is Odessa A’zion, following recent roles in Marty Supreme and I Love LA.

According to Netflix’s official synopsis, the animated series will centre on the characters facing new threats in Hawkins. “Welcome back to Hawkins in the stark winter of 1985, where the original characters must fight new monsters and unravel a paranormal mystery terrorizing their town in ‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85,’ an epic new animated series,” the description states.

A second spin-off series is also in development but is not expected to enter production for some time. This project will be live action and, based on comments from creators the Duffer Brothers, will not focus on any characters from the original series. It is set to feature a new story, new characters, a different location and take place in another decade, expanding the Stranger Things universe beyond Hawkins.
