SWAT: A suicide bomber along with his facilitator was killed when he detonated his bomb amid clashes in the Malookabad area near Mingora on Thursday.
According to the Swat Media Centre, security forces launched an operation against unidentified terrorists including a suicide bomber on Wednesday night. Security forces have imposed a curfew, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
Briefing the media, operation in charge Brigadier Sajjad Ahmed said that authorities received intelligence about the reorganisation of some terrorist groups in Mingora and its suburbs.
“Since Ramazan, we have, in various operations, recovered a large number of weapons, improvised explosive devices (IED) and ammunitions,” said Brig Ahmed.
“Similarly, our intelligence revealed that a suicide bomber has entered Mingora city after which we started conducting the search operation.
“During the search operation, our vehicle was fired upon from a house in the Haji Baba Chowk area in which one of our soldiers was killed. Since our troops had already cordoned off the area, the terrorists were entrapped. One of the assailants then entered a house in the Malookabad area and our soldiers surrounded it. At this point the suicide bomber detonated his bomb, killing one of his aides as well.
During the encounter we nabbed one terrorist who is critically injured.”
Brig Ahmed added that the search operation will be conducted further to clear the area completely. “We are extending our operation and will soon clear the area of terrorists.”
