Nine killed, including five children, in stabbing attack in Suriname
Police officers opened fire when the suspect attempted to attack them during the arrest

At least nine people, including five children, were killed in a stabbing attack in Suriname’s capital Paramaribo, police said on Sunday.
According to authorities, the suspect attacked neighbours and children during the overnight incident, using a sharp object. Four adults and five minors were killed, while a sixth child and another adult sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital.
Police said officers opened fire when the suspect attempted to attack them during the arrest. He was shot in the legs and remains hospitalised under guard. Investigations into the motive behind the attack are ongoing.
