Father arrested after shooting daughter, her friend dead in Gujar Khan
Police say suspect surrendered after suspected honour killing in Rawalpindi district

A man has been arrested after shooting dead his daughter and her friend in a suspected honour killing in Gujar Khan, a city in Rawalpindi district, police said.
The suspect, identified as Nadeem Sarwar, surrendered to authorities on Wednesday morning after the killings.
The victims were identified as 22-year-old Shanail Zahra and Rehmanullah, also 22.
Shanail worked as a receptionist at Potohar Medical Complex. Rehmanullah, son of Rozi Khan and a resident of Peshawar, worked at the same facility as a ward boy.
Police sources said there had been reports of a marriage-related dispute before the incident.
They said Nadeem opened fire after finding Shanail and Rehmanullah together at his home in the Takia Baba Rahim Shah area.
Both victims died at the scene. Their bodies were shifted for post-mortem examinations.
Nadeem’s wife was also injured during the shooting. She sustained three gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital in serious condition.
City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani took notice of the incident and directed police to register a case against the suspect.
Police said the case will be registered under sections 302 and 311 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Section 302 deals with intentional murder and carries punishments ranging from the death penalty to up to 25 years in prison.
Section 311 relates to honour killings. It provides for life imprisonment or up to 14 years in jail, although the death penalty may also be awarded.
Honour killings remain a serious issue in Pakistan. Victims are often targeted over perceived violations of family honour, particularly linked to marriage decisions or personal relationships.
