Theses Display: Arts students highlight country’s political scene

FAISALABAD:

More than 50 students of the Government College University’s Textile and Fashion Design Department displayed their thesis work on Thursday.

The theme was the country’s current political, social and economic situation. Muhammad Tahir’s work highlighted the mudslinging among political parties and suicide bombings. Tahir, majoring in graphics, displayed his work on canvas.

“We need not wait for a Messiah to solve our problems. We need to resolve our issues ourselves,” he said. “These students can join any industry or start their own businesses,” Tehmina Afzal, the head of the Textile and Fashion Design Department said.

These students, she said, had introduced new trends in fashion through their work, particularly pointing to a ‘pink swing’ inspired by the texture and colour of the onion peal.

“This displays the hidden splendor of onion,” she said. The exhibition also featured art pieces displaying the ocean and marine life, Iqbal’s poetry and the fusion of fashion from the east and the west.
