PM chairs meeting to discuss terrorism

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani is currently chairing a meeting of senior officials to discuss terrorism.

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani presided over a meeting of senior officials to discuss terrorism and ways to curb it, on Monday.

Federal Information Minister Qamaruz Zaman Kaira gave details about the decisions taken in the meeting in a press conference.

He said the prime minister ordered the activation of the National Counter Terrorism Authority and arrangements are being made for a national conference on anti-terrorism strategy.


Kaira also stressed on the need of reforming religious seminaries in the country.

The meeting took place at the Prime Minister's Secretariat with the interior minister, prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, all the chief ministers, all police chiefs and other law enforcement officials in attendance.

“We will update laws to put more effective controls on banned sectarian outfits,” a top official said earlier regarding the meeting.

The meeting came in the wake of twin suicide blasts at Data Darbar in Lahore on Thursday night that killed more than 40 devotees and injured close to 200.
