Student dies after falling from varsity building

LAHORE:

A 22-year-old student of a private university died after falling from the fourth floor of a campus building on Defence Road, police said on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Muhammad Owais, a Pharm-D student of Semester Five, Section D. police said Owais fell from the fourth floor under circumstances that are yet to be determined. Fellow students rushed him to the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Police said an investigation is under way to ascertain whether the incident was an accident or a case of suicide.

"CCTV footage from the university premises is being reviewed, and statements of students and staff are being recorded to determine the exact cause of the fall," a police official said. University authorities stated that they were fully cooperating with law enforcement agencies in the inquiry.
