A police officer deployed in the Security Division on Old Airport Road in Rawalpindi has been suspended after being caught taking a bribe while stopping vehicles early in the morning.

The incident came to light following a complaint on social media, prompting City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani to take action. The officer, identified as Azam, has been suspended, and a formal charge sheet has been ordered.

According to the video circulating online, the uniformed officer is seen halting a vehicle and engaging in conversation with the driver. In the final parts of the video,  the officer is seen taking something from the passenger.

CPO Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani expressed his dismay at the incident, stating, "We will not tolerate anyone who undermines the dignity of our department. Strict accountability will be enforced."

He further emphasised, "Corruption or abuse of power will not be tolerated. Officers must correct their conduct to maintain the integrity of the force."

An investigation is underway, and further disciplinary action is expected.
