The NED University of Engineering and Technology has filed a petition challenging the Dawood College of Engineering and Technology’s (DECT) affiliation with the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET).
On Thursday, the Sindh High Court’s division bench gave the respondents in the petition one last chance to appear and argue their case.
NED named the secretary of education, MUET and DCET in its petition. The university maintains that DCET could never be affiliated with another university as it was beyond its jurisdiction and in fact NED had jurisdiction over colleges in the Karachi division.
When the petition came up for hearing on Thursday, the lawyers for the respondents were not in court. Chief Justice Musheer Alam and Justice Imam Bux Baloch put off the hearing while ordering for notices to be issued to the Advocate General of Sindh and the entities named in the petition. If no one appears at the next hearing, the court will pass orders at the next hearing.
