Husband of actress Devon Aoki faces felony charges after Coral Gables hit and run left scooter rider serious injured

James Bailey, the husband of model and former actress Devon Aoki, is facing felony charges following a hit-and-run incident in Coral Gables, Florida, that left a scooter rider seriously injured, according to police.
Authorities said the incident occurred just after 5:15 p.m. on Monday at the intersection of Douglas Road and Giralda Avenue. Investigators allege that Bailey, 40, was driving an Audi SQ7 SUV when he struck a man riding a scooter in a marked crosswalk. An arrest report states that the victim’s left foot became trapped beneath the vehicle’s tire, prompting his girlfriend to plead with Bailey to move the car to free him.
Police said Bailey briefly moved the vehicle but then left the scene without providing assistance, exchanging information, or contacting authorities. The victim reportedly suffered serious injuries, including two fractured bones in his foot.

Using automated license plate readers and surveillance cameras, officers traced the Audi to a Pinecrest mansion shared by Bailey and Aoki, who is known for her roles in 2 Fast 2 Furious and Sin City. Police said Aoki told officers she did not know the SUV’s whereabouts. Shortly afterward, Bailey allegedly returned to the residence in the vehicle, ignored commands to stop, and ran inside the home before eventually surrendering.
Investigators noted that the Audi showed damage consistent with a collision involving a pedestrian on a scooter. Police reported no signs of alcohol or drug impairment.
Bailey was arrested and charged with hit-and-run causing serious bodily injury and resisting without violence. During a bond court appearance on Tuesday, a Miami-Dade judge found probable cause for both charges and set bail at $7,500. Bailey was later released and declined to comment.
