Elon Musk is facing online backlash after commenting on Sydney Sweeney’s appearance following the Los Angeles premiere of The Housemaid.

The controversy began after Sweeney attended the premiere earlier this week wearing a white, low-cut halter-style gown that quickly attracted attention across social media.

Musk reacted to a video of the actress by sharing an AI-generated meme that referenced the physical strain associated with having a larger chest, captioning the post, “Can’t be easy.”

The meme compared the appearance of a woman with a fuller bust to an image suggesting spinal discomfort, implying back pain caused by being top-heavy. While some medical sources have noted that disproportionately large breasts can contribute to neck or back pain, many users criticized Musk for making unsolicited remarks about the actress’s body.

Social media users were quick to respond, with several calling the post inappropriate and unnecessary. Others pointed out the age gap between Musk and Sweeney, while some questioned why the comment was made at all.

At the same time, many fans focused on praising Sweeney’s look, drawing comparisons between her gown and Marilyn Monroe’s iconic white dress from The Seven Year Itch. The actress also received widespread support on Instagram, where followers and fashion insiders complimented the custom design worn to the event.

Sweeney has previously addressed public attention surrounding her body. Earlier this month, during a Vanity Fair lie detector segment with co-star Amanda Seyfried, she confirmed that she has not had cosmetic surgery and said ongoing speculation about her appearance has been frustrating.

Musk has not addressed the backlash directly. Representatives for Sweeney were contacted for comment.
